Winter fishing

 

Description:

Come to check the winter fishing nets with a local fisherman and enjoy the lakeside nature in the wintertime. A snow mobile sled will take you to the fishing spots. You can participate in checking the nets or you can just enjoy the Lappish winter nature. After the fishing trip a coffee and a coffee bread is served at the cottage nearby the lake. The quest will learn about the winterfishing and hear stories about the local way of living ahd lifestyle.

The program takes around 3 hours, from which 1 hour is spent on the lake.

Summer fishing

 Description:

Come to check the fishing nets with a local fisherman and get familiar with the traditional finnish fishing methods.

The local fisherman will take you with a boat to his secret fishing grounds and you can collect the catch with fisherman or just enjoy the Finnish lakeside.
If we are lucky, we might catch a giant pike. If we get catch we will also learn about the fish preparation techniques.

The quests will learn about the traditional fishing methods and about finnish fish species. After the fishing we will enjoy a coffee and a pastry at fishermans house and hear stories about the local culture and fishing.

Duration: 3h

Place: Posio / Mustajoentie 2

Season: From May to October (may vary due to yearly weather conditions)

Group size: 2 – 4

Please note: Suitable and warm clothing is required. Waterproof shoes are recommended. The summer fishin program is available due to yerly weather conditions.

A trip to Riisitunturi

national park

 Description:

Come to enjoy the magnificent sceneries of Riisitunturi national park. During the trip we get familiar with local nature and the distinctive features of the national park. Also picnic sausages grilled on open fire are included.

The transportation to national park is arranged from Posio town centre. At the national park we will hike a 4km “Riisin rääpäisy” trail. During the hike we take breaks for photographing and for picnic sausages.

The hike is made along the marked trails and it is possible to move by walking all year round.

Duration: 5 hours

Starting place: Posio town centre/ Alvari House

Season: All year

Group size: 2 – 8

Please note: Suitable and warm clothing and is suitable shoes for roaming are required. Also a small backpack and some drinking water (2-5dl) is recommended. The temperature limit is -25 Celsius.

A trip to

Korouoma Canyon

 Korouoma Canyon is one of the most unique places in Posio with impressive wall's of ice which can be seen throughout the entire winter. During the trip we explore the Korouoma canyon and the local nature. Picnic sausages are also included.

During the hike we take short pauses for photographing and also a picnic break for cooking the sausages on open fire.

The hike is made along the marked trails and it is possible to move by walking all year round. The trip is recommended for people with normal physical condition.

Duration: 5 hours

Starting place: Posio town centre/ Alvari House. Also bus transportation from accommodation for bigger groups is possible.

Season: All year

Group size: 2 – 8

  • We have stopped using disposable plates, bowls and cutlery.

  • We compost fish parings and other biowaste.

  • We tell about composting to our guests.

  • For the guests visiting our home, we tell about how we practice sustainable forestry in our own forests.

  • We tell about conservation and restoration of biodiversity in our own forests.

  • When visiting Riisitunturi National Park and Korouoma Nature Reserve, we follow the principles of sustainable tourism set by Metsähallitus.

  • We improve waste separation and recycling facilities in cooperation with the Posio municipality and the tourism association.

Cultural responsibility

  • The wood in the horse sled is cut from our own trees and tarred with local tar.

  • We make our own wild herb tea and serve it at the home visits.

  • At the fishing trips, we tell about sustainable fishing.

  • We tell our guests about the local way of life, where wild food is utilised as much as possible.

  • We use local products and aim at increasing the usage of them in the future.

  • We use tableware made by a local ceramics business, Miki Studio.

Economic responsibility

  • We prefer local and regional products, services and businesses.

  • We cooperate and collaborate with the local tourism businesses by, for example, selling our tours to accommodation businesses' guests.

Social responsibility

  • We hire local workers, who share our values of sustainable tourism.

  • We will make written guidelines about responsible tourism to our workers.

  • When planning new routes for the programme services, land owners are contacted and asked for permission to use their land.

  • Other users are informed beforehand about the usage of the horse sled ride routes.

  • We share information, cooperate and collaborate with the members of the local tourism association.
